Musselburgh · Our Lady of Loretto, Musselburgh

Choral concert featuring works by Palestrina, Bach, Gabrieli, Schütz, and contemporaries.
A Celebration of Palestrina and Bach with The Marian Consort: performed by The Marian Consort, Rory McCleery (Director), English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble, Gawain Glenton (Director) playing Gabrieli: Jubilate Deo, omnis terra; Palestrina: Missa sine nomine; Hassler: Pater noster a8; Schütz: Selig sind die Toten; Handl: Media vita; Schütz: Sehet an den Feigenbaum; Stabile: Nunc dimittis a8; Palestrina: Nunc dimittis a 8; JS Bach: Komm, Jesu komm at Our Lady of Loretto, Musselburgh on Wed 9 Sept 7.30pm as part of the Lammermuir Festival. A fascinating programme that demonstrates the huge influence of Palestrina (The Prince of Music) on subsequent generations of musicians, among them the towering figure of JS Bach. As well as Palestrina's Missa sine nomine in his own version with added instruments, Bach performed works by Palestrina's contemporaries with his choir at St Thomas's Leipzig. Alongside these are pieces from Schütz's Italian-influenced Geistliche Chormusik, dedicated to the city of Leipzig and the musicians of St Thomas's.
