Training workshop for community groups to support blue health research in the Forth region.
This workshop is a training session for communities in East Lothian who wish to support with blue health research in the Forth region. We’re looking for community groups in the Forth region to help us test some exciting new tools, and put Scotland on the map for blue health research. Your community already knows what it feels like to be out by the water. Whether it’s a morning walk along the riverbank, a volunteer session at the beach, or regular time spent at your local loch — you’re already experiencing something policy makers are only beginning to pay attention to. We’re a team from greenspace scotland, the University of Edinburgh and Public Health Scotland, and we need your help to do something that’s never been done in Scotland before: use specially-designed European research tools to properly measure and document the value of blue spaces right here in the Forth region. Your knowledge of your local blue space is exactly what this research needs. And your involvement could help make the case — with real evidence — for better investment in and protection of blue spaces across Scotland. What the workshop will involve: This workshop will be focusing on delivering practical training for you to use these research tools in your local blue space. The workshop will involve: An overview of the project Discussion of the different types of tools that will be used Practical training on use of tablet computers to complete surveys A site visit to conduct an initial survey After the workshop you will be given a tablet to take away with you for around two weeks and you can schedule time to conduct the surveys on-site. We will be available to provide ongoing support where required. Please be aware that this is a pilot project and a key focus is on testing what works and what doesn\'t work, so the approach and delivery is not completely polished. We\'re seeking your help as community members to help co-deliver this project and provide valuable input on this exicting opportunity. The Venue: The Ridge is located a 1 minute walk from the High Street, with full accessibility. More information can be found on their website - How to find us – The Ridge SCIO. As we will be going outside for part of the event please ensure you bring adequate clothing for the weather.
