Folk music session led by fiddle player Amy Geddes and piper Allan MacDonald.
Session with Amy Geddes & Allan MacDonald – The Tyneside – SUNDAY, 7pm A friendly folk session open to those of all levels and instrumental leanings. Held in high regard as both musician and educator, Amy is a leading light in the contemporary Scottish fiddle world. Her fiddle book, Fyne Fiddles Volume 1, is a suite of lessons also available online and as a CD. Her own tunes feature in Ho-ro-gheallaidh and Tunes from the Women. Her most recent CD, Redwood Mountain (with Dean Owens) highlights her combined vocal and instrumental skills in a reimagining of the old American folk songs collected by Alan Lomax. A leading light in the Gaelic musical scene, Allan is in demand internationally as a composer, musical director, piper, singer, workshop leader, and lecturer on Gaelic music. One of his myriad gifts is to make pibroch accessible and lovable. His work as a scholar-performer reuniting seventeenth-century piping with its Gaelic roots is influencing a whole generation of pipers.
