As homage to one of the greatest composers of the early 17th century on the 400th anniversary of his death, Thomas Dunford and the brilliant Ensemble Jupiter play all seven Lachrimae (Tears) of John Dowland, composer of some of the most profoundly beautiful music ever written. Dowland's cycle of masterpieces for lute and viol consort is interspersed with exquisite songs from his three Books of Ayres, leading the listener through a series of tearful moods, from despairing melancholy to intense love and supreme joy.
