Concerto Copenhagen performs three early Haydn symphonies at St Mary's Kirk.
Concerto Copenhagen Haydn Project – Morning, Noon and Night: performed by Concerto Copenhagen, Lars Ulrik Mortensen (Director) playing Haydn; Symphony No 6 in D major ‘Le Matin’; Symphony No 7 in C major ‘Le Midi’; Symphony No 8 in G major ‘Le Soir’ at St Mary's Kirk, Haddington on Wed 16 Sept 7.30pm as part of the Lammermuir Festival. These three famous early symphonies, dubbed 'Morning', 'Noon' and 'Night', were the first Haydn composed after arriving at the Palace of Esterházy in 1761. Perhaps his new employer, Prince Paul Anton, wanted something colourfully descriptive, like Vivaldi's Four Seasons; at any rate the young Haydn, bursting with ideas and enthusiasm for his new job, poured into them all of his genius for innovation and experiment. The brilliance of Anton's court orchestra is fully exploited in Haydn's virtuosic orchestral and solo writing - the perfect vehicle for Lars Ulrik Mortensen's superb Concerto Copenhagen players.
