Classical piano concertos by Mozart and Britten performed by Royal Northern Sinfonia.
Jeremy Denk plays Mozart Piano Concertos III: performed by Royal Northern Sinfonia, Jeremy Denk (Piano / Director), Maria Wloszczowska (Director) playing Mozart; Piano Concerto No 24 in C minor K491; Britten; Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge; Piano Concerto No 25 in C major K503 at St Mary's Kirk, Haddington on Sat 12 Sept 7.30pm as part of the Lammermuir Festival. Jeremy Denk and Maria Wloszczowska complete their Mozart concerto journey with two of the greatest, dating from 1786. The shadowy opening of the C minor concerto, completed just before Le Nozze di Figaro, introduces a broodingly personal atmosphere, its chamber music intimacy much enhanced by a full woodwind section. The wonderful C major concerto was curiously neglected after Mozart's death but is now regarded as one of the outstanding masterpieces of the Classical era. A fine Mozart interpreter himself, Britten wrote his variations as a tribute to his teacher Frank Bridge and they were premiered, appropriately, in Salzburg.
