In 1988 a North Sea oil rig caught fire and 167 men were killed. The Piper Alpha disaster was the world's worst offshore oil and gas accident and James MacMillan's Tuireadh (Lament) is a searingly moving tribute to those who died. The balm of Mozart's sublime Clarinet Quintet ends the concert.
