Baritone recital featuring Britten song cycles, Blake settings, and Bridge songs.
Roderick Williams Sings Britten: performed by Roderick Williams (Baritone), Christopher Glynn (Piano) playing Britten; Songs and Proverbs of; William Blake Op 74; Williams; The Shepherd (Songs of Innocence); The Angel (Songs of Experience); Bridge; Blow, blow, thou winter wind; Tears, idle tears; Come to me in my dreams; Love went a-riding; Folksong arrangements at Holy Trinity Church, Haddington on Fri 11 Sept 10pm as part of the Lammermuir Festival. Britten's late song cycle sets poems from William Blake's Proverbs of Hell and Songs of Experience. Premiered in 1965, these dark, intensely dramatic songs were described by one critic as 'the finest cycle that Britten has yet given us... its impact was overwhelming.' Roderick Williams, himself a talented composer, also sings two of his own Blake settings and some charming songs by Britten's teacher, Frank Bridge.
